Description
Summary:New forms of solidarity are being shaped as a response to the European "refugee crisis." National governments have not been able to implement any sustainable solution to the crisis, but the solidarity movement has been very active. This book offers a conceptualization of three types of solidarity-autonomous, civic, and institutional solidarity-and applies it to three case studies, which illustrate the emergence of different forms of solidarity: the City Plaza Hotel in Athens, the Danish "friendly neighbors," and Barcelona as refuge city. Óscar García Agustín is Associate Professor in the Department of Culture and Global Studies at Aalborg University, Denmark. Martin Bak Jørgensen is Associate Professor in the Department of Culture and Global Studies at Aalborg University, Denmark.
