520 |a This book is designed to provide a useful and comprehensive resource and state-of-the-art overview to readers about cardiovascular damage potentially induced by antineoplastic drugs. Thanks to more and more effective antineoplastic treatments, the survival of cancer patients is increasing at an exponential rate. However, the burden of related cardiovascular complications that affect morbidity and mortality are also on the rise. A new branch of cardiology, Cardio-Oncology, was developed to combat this trend. The aim of its conception is to prevent cardiovascular complications related to cancer therapy and to facilitate and avoid interruption of antineoplastic drugs due to the occurrence of cardiovascular damage. The text focuses on cardiovascular complications related to cancer treatment and reviews the pathophysiological mechanisms leading to cardiovascular toxicity related to various antineoplastic drugs. Diagnostic modalities for early diagnosis are also discussed, followed by preventive and therapeutic strategies. Cardiovascular Complications in Cancer Therapy serves as a valuable resource for residents, fellow physicians, medical oncologists, cardiologists, and general practitioners and all those who take care of these patients.
