520 |a For many years now, high-resolution CT has been an indispensable tool in the evaluation of patients with suspected diffuse pulmonary disease. Today, owing to continuous technical improvements and in particular the introduction of multidetector CT, very detailed images of the lung can be obtained in every patient undergoing chest CT. As a consequence, interpretation of the findings requires good knowledge and understanding of the CT signs of the other more common pulmonary diseases. Importantly, understanding the CT features of lung disease is as important as knowing them, and is mandatory if discussions between radiologists, clinicians and pathologists are to prove fruitful. In "Computed Tomography of the Lung: a Pattern Approach", the appearance and distribution patterns of lung diseases are described and explained, and are used as the basis for discussion of differential diagnosis. In the first part of the book, the four main appearance patterns of lung disease - nodular, linear, and increased and decreased lung attenuation – are described with the help of many colour drawings and high-quality illustrations. This approach will enable the reader to recognise and understand these patterns and to interpret them in order to reach a diagnosis. In the second part, many typical cases are shown which will assist the reader in applying what was learned in the first part. This concise, easy to use and didactic book will help the radiologist in training to learn and understand the CT features of lung disease and is also recommended to more experienced specialists wishing to update their knowledge in the field.
