Summary: | In the first chapter, the book’s wider cognitive object is introduced. The chapter entitled as “Historical overview”, consists of three sub-chapters and refers to work and services in special domains, in the area of social organisation. In the first sub-chapter, we define the term “work”, by presenting a short historical overview - from Industrial Revolution to nowadays. The historical overview provides a link between allocating and organising work, and key theories, such as Bureaucracy, Taylorism and Fordism. The sub-chapter, entitled as “Providing Services” ,describes the context of working in that domain, as well as the role of employees’ gender. The sub-chapter “The office as workplace” refers to the working office spaces and to the tech evolution, used as a pressure lever to the organisational forms and the structure of organisation, as well as to the means used by employees and their direct impact on special needs.
