| Περίληψη: | In the introduction we will:<br/>- present an overview of the area of business information systems,<br/>- give definitions used in the subject area of the book,<br/>- present the basic business requirements from IT systems,<br/>- present the challenges faced by modern enterprises, and<br/>- present the classification of business information systems according to their functionality.<br/><br/>Therefore, the key objective of this chapter is the understanding of the basic concepts, of fundamental functionality needed by businesses and of the different categories of business information systems.
