| Summary: | In this chapter the social, educational, cultural and political activity of women is discussed. In particular, we expand upon their writing and publishing activity (translations, writing of original works, publication of magazines), their philanthropic, pro-education/educational, feminist and collective unionised organisation and action, and we analyse the promotion of social and political issues through these activities (education of the underprivileged, professional training, social welfare policies, work rights, right to vote – political rights). In this mobilisation, women teachers’ presence is central. The chapter focuses on the activity of women teachers placing it within the wider framework of the women’s movement and the institutional changes/alterations. In the first part, we discuss their publishing activity, with emphasis placed on the publication of periodicals, in the second part their philanthropic activity, while in the third, we focus on their feminist and unionised activity.
