The mixture of primary energy sources used for the generation of electricity dtermines to a great extent the environmental impacts assciated with the use of household appliances.<br/>Thus, the aim of the chapter is to study the electricity system in Greece. At first, electricity generation from fossil primary sources is studied (lignite, natural gas, cude oil). Then, electricity generation from renewable energy sources (hydro, solar, wind) is studied. The environmental, economic and social impacts of each option are analysed. In addition, the evolution of electricity generation in Greece and Europe in the course of the years is presented. Η χρήση της ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας αποτελεί τον κρισιμότερο παράγοντα ανάπτυξης και εξέλιξης των σύγχρονων οικιακών συσκευών. Το μείγμα των πρωτογενών μορφών ενέργειας που χρησιμοποιούνται για την ηλεκτροπαραγωγή καθορίζει σε πολύ σημαντικό βαθμό τις περιβαλλοντικές επιπτώσεις που προκύπτουν στο στάδιο της χρήσης των ηλεκτρικών συσκευών. Σκοπός του κεφαλαίου είναι η γνωριμία με το σύστημα παραγωγής της ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας στην Ελλάδα. Καταρχάς εξετάζεται η παραγωγή ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας από τα συμβατικά καύσιμα (λιγνίτη, αργό πετρέλαιο, φυσικό αέριο) και στη συνέχεια ακολουθεί η παρουσίαση της παραγωγής ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας από ανανεώσιμες πηγές (υδροδυναμική, αιολική, ηλιακή). Αναλύονται οι σημαντικότερες περιβαλλοντικές, οικονομικές και κοινωνικές επιπτώσεις της κάθε μιας επιλογής.
