Summary:Waste of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) describe the final stage of the life cycle of household electrical appliances. WEEE constitute the fastest developing waste stream worldwide. the aim of this chapter is to present the main materials found in WEEE (both useful that have to be recovered and toxic that have to be removed). The environmental impacts generated by the uncontrolled management of WEEE are discussed and data are presented focusing on Greece but also on the global WEEE management. The alternative management of WEEE based on the extended producer responsibility is explained. Finally, the technological developments on precious metals recovery from WEEE are discussed.
