Περίληψη:Atmospheric dynamics deals with the study of atmospheric motions, which are subject to the conservation laws of mass, momentum and energy. The fundamental forces which act in the atmosphere are the gravitational force, the frictional force and the pressure gradient force. Since atmospheric motions are studied in a non-inertial frame of reference that co-rotates with earth, the inertial, centrifugal and Coriolis, forces, are also included in the equation of motion. Selected topics of dynamic meteorology are studied, which refer mostly to large scale motions, which include: geostrophic winds, cyclonic and anticyclonic systems, subgeostrophic winds caused by frictional forces in the planetary boundary layer, and gradient winds that apply to tropical cyclones. In addition, the principle of thermal circulation in the atmosphere is discussed and applied in small (sea breeze) and large (planetary circulation) scale motions.
