| Περίληψη: | This chapter discusses the role of telecommunications infrastructure in the development of the Information Society.<br/><br/>Specifically in this chapter will be presented:<br/><br/>• A brief historical development of telecommunications infrastructure<br/>• The liberalization of telecommunications and the regulatory framework<br/>• The axes of release (unbundled local loop access, spectrum licensing, collocation of telecommunications infrastructure, right of way)<br/>• The unbundling of the local loop (Local Loop Unbundling), available formats and services via LLU<br/>• Definition of the broadband access<br/>• Wired and wireless broadband access technologies<br/>• Technologies Digital Subscriber Line (xDSL)<br/>• Fiber Optic and optical network cost models<br/>• Wireless broadband access technologies (Wi-Fi, WiMAX, 3G / UMTS, LTE, LMDS, Satellite)<br/>• Broadband penetration (internationally and in Greece)
