Περίληψη: | This chapter describes the operating principle and key parts of heat pumps as machines that produce heating and cooling consuming electricity. Reference is made to the calculation methodology for their performance providing heat and cooling, and the identification of other features based on existing standards. The performance of the heat pump depends on the heat source utilizing for their operation and thus presents the major sources used to pump heat are presented. Then, an extensive presentation of Geothermal Heat Pump (GSHP) systems which utilize practically constant soil temperature, thereby achieving savings of electricity and primary energy and reduction of greenhouse gases, resulting in significant economic and environmental benefits from their use are shown.
