Finally, there is introduction into the various sections of sport biomechanics. Based on this information, the aim and the structure of the present book are discussed. Στο κεφάλαιο αυτό γίνεται μια εισαγωγή στην έννοια του αγωνιστικού αθλητισμού και στη θέση της εμβιομηχανικής μέσα στην αθλητική επιστήμη. Δίνεται ο ορισμός και αναγνωρίζονται οι διάφοροι τομείς στους οποίους συνεισφέρει η αθλητική εμβιομηχανική.
