An atmospheric pressure plasma reactor is employed. Its function is based on a coaxial dielectric barrier discharge producing simultaneously atmospheric pressure guided streamers. The driving voltage is either sinusoidal or pulsed, and the working gas is pure helium. Human Stratum Corneum samples are subjected to the produced atmospheric pressure guided streamers for different treatment times, and the chemical modification of their surfaces is evaluated by means of contacts angle measurements, calculation of free surface energy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis. Στην παρούσα μεταπτυχιακή εργασία μελετάται πειραματικά η τροποποίηση της υδροφιλίας της ανθρώπινης κεράτινης στιβάδας (Stratum Corneum) μέσω ψυχρού πλάσματος ατμοσφαιρικής πίεσης. Χρησιμοποιείται αντιδραστήρας ψυχρού πλάσματος του οποίου η λειτουργία βασίζεται σε εκκενώσεις διηλεκτρικού φράγματος και παραγόμενων κατευθυνόμενων ιονιζώντων κυμάτων σε συνθήκες ατμοσφαιρικής πίεσης. Η επιβαλλόμενη τάση στον αντιδραστήρα είναι είτε ημιτονοειδής είτε παλμικής μορφής. Το αέριο λειτουργίας είναι ήλιο υψηλής καθαρότητας. Δείγματα της κεράτινης στιβάδας ανθρώπινου δέρματος εκτίθενται στο παραγόμενο ψυχρό πλάσμα σε διαφορετικούς χρόνους.
