Περίληψη:A method for obtaining upper bounds for the absolute values of the complex stress-intensity factors at the tips of curvilinear cracks in plane isotropic elastic media is proposed. This method, which is based on the complex singular integral equation of such a problem and on an equivalent Fredholm integral equation of the second kind, is particularly appropriate for slightly curvilinear crack problems and it constitutes an alternative to the solution of the aforementioned singular integral equation by a numerical or by an asymptotic procedure. The proposed method is applied to the classical problem of a circular-arc-shaped crack and its usefulness is illustrated in this particular problem. Generalizations of the proposed method to other complex singular integral equations can also be easily made.
