In general, the term Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs) refers to vehicles such as hydrogen, electric, hybrid-electric, natural gas and bio-fuel vehicles. Various studies have illustrated that the wide use of AFVs with appropriate strategies can contribute to significantly reducing the dependency on fossil fuels, the major contributor of greenhouse gases. The present thesis aims to present a literature review on approaches regarding locating facilities for AFVs and especially on the location of Hydrogen Refuelling Stations (HRS) for Fuel Cells Electric Vehicles (FCEVs). In this direction it is attempted to sum up the most important elements of refuelling station location problems and identify critical factors for seeking the solutions. However due to the fact that BEVs and PHEVs are more mature technologies exhibiting higher market penetration, a big part of the study refers in general to the location problem of such facilities. Nevertheless the basic principles of location modeling are common for all the above technologies. Η παρούσα εργασία αποσκοπεί στην βιβλιογραφική ανασκόπηση των προσεγγίσεων που αφορούν στη χωροθέτηση εγκαταστάσεων οχημάτων εναλλακτικών καυσίμων (Alternative Fuel Vehicles) και ειδικότερα στη χωροθέτηση σταθμών ανεφοδιασμού υδρογόνου για οχήματα κυψελίδων καυσίμου (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles). Στη κατεύθυνση αυτή, συνοψίζονται τα πιο σημαντικά ζητήματα των προβλημάτων χωροθέτησης σταθμών ανεφοδιασμού και εντοπίζονται κρίσιμοι παράγοντες για την εξεύρεση λύσεων. Ωστόσο, λόγω του γεγονότος ότι τα αμιγώς ηλεκτρικά οχήματα (Battery Electric Vehicles) και τα υβριδικά οχήματα βενζίνης-ρεύματος (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles) έχουν πιο ώριμες τεχνολογίες που παρουσιάζουν μεγαλύτερο βαθμό διείσδυσης στην αγορά, ένα μεγάλο μέρος της μελέτης αναφέρεται γενικά στο πρόβλημα χωροθέτησης τέτοιων εγκαταστάσεων.
