Περίληψη: | In this dissertation, it is examined the intergenerational mobility in schooling
in Greece for the period 1971-2011. The study of intergenerational educational
mobility has become vital in recent years as it considerably influences on the
changes that occur in the social space and demonstrates the dynamics of national
economies. On the whole, if the educational level of one generation is the reason
of next generation’s education then education not only does it produce results for
the current generation, but also relates to the next generation’s outcome in education.
Aiming to capture the changes in educational mobility across generations,
I focus on the educational participation of boys and girls aged 13-14 and 16-17
by census year. Specifically, I investigate to what extent the school participation
was influenced by the parental background, family and household characteristics
as well as the quantity of school resources. Finally, I conclude that education has
become more accessible to boys and girls from any socioeconomic background over
the years.
