The present dissertation examines the effect of military expenditure on income inequality in a group of 97 developing and developed nations for the period 1990 to 2017. The main data source about military spending is the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute and we use three different proxies of military spending. The econometric results indicate that there is a negative relationship between income inequality and military spending. Moreover, we examine the impact of NATO membership on the relationship among military spending and pay distribution inequality. The identification strategy used, implies that the membership in the Alliance plays an important role for the income disparity gap narrowing.
