Description
Summary:This thesis deals with the investigation and the design of Voltage Controlled Differential Ring Oscillators (DRO) in CMOS technology. The Ring Oscillators are important parts of several electronics systems. Some selected topologies of Ring Oscillators are studied in this thesis in order to investigate the comparative performance between each other under the same design technology and the same operating environment. The DROs topologies were chosen from the literature based on their popularity in the industry and, secondly, the performance that they are referenced to provide. The thesis is structured in five chapters, which include the study of six DRO circuits. Cadence software and the Specter simulator are utilized in their design, and the simulation results of the various DRO topologies are eventually compared to determine the benefits and drawbacks of each. The study not only includes findings from schematic simulations, but also presents post-layout simulations including the influence of the parasitic elements. In addition, corners analysis simulations results for different process, voltage and temperature (PVT) conditions are performed, as well as a figure of merit (FOM) comparison will be shown.
