Περίληψη: | The increase of the number of athletic events and sports fans who are willing
to travel to different cities or even different countries in order to watch their favorite
players play live in the field have made sports tourism a very popular alternative form
of tourism, during the past years. In this paper, through bibliographic research, I
examine the factors that motivate people to choose sports tourism as an alternative
form of tourism. In addition, in this paper I present the results of a statistical research
that I conducted on people between the ages of 18 to 25 years old about their
relationship with sports tourism and the factors that lead or prevent them from
making a trip like that. The bibliographic research shows that the factors that affect
sports tourism are not significantly different than the factors that affect tourism in
general. Their difference is in the feelings that sports tourism gives to the tourist, for
example the feeling of winning. In contrast, statistical research shows that the main
factors that motivate people to sports tourism are the feeling of the unique
experience and the fact that they want to support their team.
