Readers are invited to follow the algorithm over three years, charting its everyday life. Questions of ethics, transparency, accountability and market value must be grasped by the algorithm in a series of ever more demanding forms of experimentation. Here the algorithm must prove its ability to get a grip on everyday life if it is to become an ordinary feature of the settings where it is being put to work. Through investigating the everyday life of the algorithm, the book opens a conversation with existing social science research that tends to focus on the power and opacity of algorithms. In this book we have unique access to the algorithm’s design, development and testing, but can also bear witness to its fragility and dependency on others. 2020-03-18 13:36:15 2020-04-01T08:56:16Z 2020-04-01T08:56:16Z 2019 book 1007245 http://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/22916 eng application/pdf n/a 1007245.pdf https://www.springer.com/9783030005788 Springer Nature 10.1007/978-3-030-00578-8 10.1007/978-3-030-00578-8 6c6992af-b843-4f46-859c-f6e9998e40d5 7292b17b-f01a-4016-94d3-d7fb5ef9fb79 European Research Council (ERC) 151 Cham 313173 FP7 Ideas: European Research Council FP7-IDEAS-ERC - Specific Programme: "Ideas" Implementing the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Community for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration Activities (2007 to 2013) open access
