While studies of extractivism in South America often focus on wider national and international politics, this contribution instead provides ethnographic explorations of indigenous politics, perspectives and worlds, revealing loss and suffering as well as creative strategies to mediate the extralocal. Seeking to avoid conceptual imperialism or the imposition of exogenous categories, the chapters are grounded in the respective authors’ long-standing field research. The authors examine the reactions (from resistance to accommodation), consequences (from anticipation to rubble) and materials (from fossil fuel to water) diversely related to extractivism in rural and urban settings. How can Amerindian strategies to preserve localised communities in extractivist contexts contribute to ways of thinking otherwise? 2020-03-18 13:36:15 2020-04-01T09:04:53Z 2020-04-01T09:04:53Z 2019 book 1007026 http://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/23130 eng Approaches to Social Inequality and Difference application/pdf n/a 1007026.pdf https://www.springer.com/9783319934358 Springer Nature 10.1007/978-3-319-93435-8 10.1007/978-3-319-93435-8 6c6992af-b843-4f46-859c-f6e9998e40d5 282 Cham open access
