Tilsen argues that many current theories are unsatisfactory because those theories conceptualize syntactic patterns with spatially arranged structures of objects. These object-structures are atemporal and do not lend well to reasoning about time. The book develops an alternative conceptual model in which oscillatory systems of various types interact with each other through coupling forces, and in which the relative energies of those systems are organized in particular ways. Tilsen emphasizes that the two primary mechanisms of the approach – oscillators and energy levels – require alternative ways of thinking about time. Furthermore, his theory leads to a new way of thinking about grammaticality and the recursive nature of language. 2019-07-19 23:55 2020-03-10 03:00:38 2020-04-01T10:12:53Z 2020-04-01T10:12:53Z 2019-04-30 book 1005214 OCN: 1117847565 2363-5576 9783961101573 http://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/24890 eng Studies in Laboratory Phonology application/pdf n/a 1005214.pdf Language Science Press 10.5281/zenodo.2625683 104854 10.5281/zenodo.2625683 0bad921f-3055-43b9-a9f1-ea5b2d949173 b818ba9d-2dd9-4fd7-a364-7f305aef7ee9 9783961101573 Knowledge Unlatched (KU) 104854 Language Science Press 2018 - 2020 Knowledge Unlatched open access |
