Credited with introducing abstract art to Japan in the 1930s, Hasegawa also became influential as a lecturer on Japan and its aesthetic and philosophical traditions in New York and San Francisco before his premature death in 1957. A memorial volume, initiated by the Oakland Art Museum but left unpublished since the 1950s, as well as interviews from students at California College of Arts and Crafts, helps to establish Hasegawa as a thoughtful bridge between East and West and an engaging and thoughtful interpreter of classical and contemporary sources. 2019-06-19 10:39:22 2020-04-01T10:17:30Z 2020-04-01T10:17:30Z 2019 book 1005098 OCN: 1082327134 9780520298996 http://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/25003 eng application/pdf n/a the-saburo-hasegawa-reader.pdf 10.1525/luminos.70 University of California Press 10.1525/luminos.70 10.1525/luminos.70 72f3a53e-04bb-4d73-b921-22a29d903b3b 9780520298996 208 Oakland open access
