It demonstrates that the relative isolation of practitioners in Ireland meant that their findings could sometimes be seen by those elsewhere as carrying greater weight and possessing greater novelty. Particular use is made of the correspondence of Sir Hans Sloane, president of the Royal Society, to demonstrate how processes of communication and collection could operate across large distances, especially between rural Ireland and London. 2019-12-03 08:32:13 2020-04-01T10:27:45Z 2020-04-01T10:27:45Z 2019 chapter 1004960 OCN: 1135849578 http://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/25133 eng Social Histories of Medicine application/pdf n/a 9781526145147 - CH07 - Marples.pdf http://www.manchesteruniversitypress.co.uk/9781526138156/ Manchester University Press Early Modern Ireland and the world of medicine 10.7765/9781526145147 10.7765/9781526145147 6110b9b4-ba84-42ad-a0d8-f8d877957cdd 70a77c5f-d167-4021-8312-6cb679e66498 2563df2a-9f16-4497-bcd0-27e5a71df323 Manchester, UK AH/J00989X/1 Arts and Humanities Research Council AHRC open access
