European culture recognized that, between childhood and full adulthood, early modern women experienced distinctive physiological, social, and psychological transformations. Drawing on two mutually shaped layers of inquiry--cultural constructions of youth and lived experiences--the essays examine a rich array of primary sources, including literary and autobiographical works, conduct literature, asylum and judicial records, drawings, and material culture. The geographical and temporal ranges traverse England, Ireland, Italy, France, Spain, Mexico, Germany, and the Netherlands from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries. It brings fresh attention to representations of female youth, the training for adulthood, their own life writings, courtship and the emergent sexual lives of young unmarried women. 2019-02-01 23:55 2020-03-27 15:48:21 2020-04-01T10:55:44Z 2020-04-01T10:55:44Z 2018-11-01 book 1004126 OCN: 1077769905 9789048534982 http://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/25957 eng application/pdf n/a 1004126.pdf Amsterdam University Press 10.2307/j.ctv8pzd5z 102513 10.2307/j.ctv8pzd5z dd3d1a33-0ac2-4cfe-a101-355ae1bd857a b818ba9d-2dd9-4fd7-a364-7f305aef7ee9 9789048534982 Knowledge Unlatched (KU) Amsterdam 102513 KU Select 2018: HSS Frontlist Books Knowledge Unlatched open access
