Within the American Southwest, colonial encounters and the processes of colonialism played out in notably divergent manners through time and space. The chapters in New Mexico and the Pimería Alta: The Colonial Period in the American Southwest, focus on the two major areas of the Southwest that witnessed the most intensive and sustained colonial encounters: the New Mexico Colony and the Pimería Alta. Although these broad areas share a similar early colonial history, the particular mix of players, socio-historical trajectories, and social relations within each area both led to, and were transformed by, markedly diverse colonial encounters. Understanding these different mixes of players, history, and social relations provides the foundation for conceptualizing the enormous changes wrought by colonialism throughout the region. 2017-03-22 23:55 2020-03-31 03:00:26 2020-04-01T13:45:30Z 2020-04-01T13:45:30Z 2017-03-01 book 625900 OCN: 987451355 9781607327011;9781607327226 http://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31679 eng application/pdf n/a 625900.pdf University Press of Colorado 10.26530/oapen_625900 100082 10.26530/oapen_625900 70e7c833-622a-43ce-9f6f-f7afb0c104e9 b818ba9d-2dd9-4fd7-a364-7f305aef7ee9 9781607327011;9781607327226 Knowledge Unlatched (KU) United States 100082 KU Select 2016 Front List Collection Knowledge Unlatched open access
