The Revolution led to a heightened sense of distrust and divided the nation along ideological lines. In the wake of the Terror, many began to express concerns about the atomization of French society. Friendship was regarded as one bond that could restore trust and cohesion. Because trust and cohesion were necessary to post-revolutionary parliamentary life, politicians turned to friends and ideas about friendship to create solidarity. Relying on detailed analyses of politicians’ social networks, new tools from the digital humanities, and examinations of behind-the-scenes political transactions, Horowitz makes clear the connection between politics and emotions in the early nineteenth century, and reevaluates the role of women in political life. 2017-03-17 23:55 2020-01-28 12:52:05 2020-04-01T13:46:40Z 2020-04-01T13:46:40Z 2014 book 625754 OCN: 1028763112 9780271061924 http://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/31707 eng application/pdf n/a 625754.pdf Penn State University Press 10.26530/oapen_625754 100090 10.26530/oapen_625754 09c386a3-3703-4269-ad0d-5c31b279590d b818ba9d-2dd9-4fd7-a364-7f305aef7ee9 9780271061924 Knowledge Unlatched (KU) University Park, PA 100090 KU Select 2016 Backlist Collection Knowledge Unlatched open access
