The premise of this volume is that one needs to focus on the question ‘What do Muslims do in terms of shari’a?’ rather than ‘What is shari’a?’. This perspective shows that the practice of Sharia is restricted to a limited set of rules that mainly relate to religious rituals, family law and social interaction. The framework of this volume then continues to explore two more interactions: the Western responses to these practices of shari’a and, in turn, the Muslim legal reaction to these responses. 2016-09-30 00:00:00 2020-04-01T13:58:16Z 2020-04-01T13:58:16Z 2013 book 617551 OCN: 1030816114 9789087281700 9789400601055 http://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32100 eng Debates on Islam and Society application/pdf n/a 617551.pdf http://www.lup.nl/product/applying-sharia-in-the-west/ Leiden University Press 10.26530/OAPEN_617551 10.26530/OAPEN_617551 276c53fd-5f1d-4065-9fce-9628863ddca8 9789087281700 9789400601055 open access
