The edition is based on all extant Arabic textual witnesses, including the Arabic secondary transmission. The Greek original of this text is lost; the Arabic translation is therefore the only witness to this important work. The number and extent of quotations from this commentary in medieval Arabic medical writings, which are documented in the introduction to the volume, demonstrate that it became a crucial source for the development of medicine in the Islamic world. It also gave rise to a wide range of didactic writings which illustrate its importance for medical teaching. The English translation that accompanies the edition aims to convey some of the flavour of the Arabic text. It also comes with comprehensive indices that map out the terminology and style of the translation. 2016-12-31 23:55:55 2020-01-07 16:47:06 2020-04-01T14:07:16Z 2020-04-01T14:07:16Z 2016 book 612443 OCN: 1030821271 9783110454055 http://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32360 eng mis Corpus Medicorum Graecorum – Supplementum Orientale application/pdf n/a 612443.pdf http://www.degruyter.com/viewbooktoc/product/466232 De Gruyter 10.26530/OAPEN_612443 10.26530/OAPEN_612443 2b386f62-fc18-4108-bcf1-ade3ed4cf2f3 d859fbd3-d884-4090-a0ec-baf821c9abfd 9783110454055 Wellcome V 2,1 611 Berlin, Germany 084192MA Wellcome Trust Wellcome open access
