The edition is based on all extant Arabic textual witnesses, including the Arabic secondary transmission. The translation of Galen's commentary became a crucial source for the development of medicine in the Islamic world, especially in the nascent field of clinical medicine. It was frequently read and quoted in later Arabic medical literature, and several Arabic authors used it to produce a wide range of didactic writings for medical students and practising physicians. The English translation, which aims to convey some of the flavour of the Arabic translation, comes with extensive notes on the differences between the Greek original and the Arabic translation. A thorough comparison between the two versions of the commentary provides important insights into the translation style and technique of Hunayn ibn Ishāq and his circle and Arabic medical terminology at the time. 2015-12-31 23:55:55 2020-01-07 16:47:06 2020-04-01T14:36:56Z 2020-04-01T14:36:56Z 2014 book 531190 OCN: 971070626 9783110406597;9783110406771 http://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/33224 eng mis Corpus Medicorum Graecorum – Supplementum Orientale application/pdf n/a 531190.pdf http://www.degruyter.com/view/product/448839 De Gruyter 10.26530/OAPEN_531190 10.26530/OAPEN_531190 2b386f62-fc18-4108-bcf1-ade3ed4cf2f3 d859fbd3-d884-4090-a0ec-baf821c9abfd 9783110406597;9783110406771 Wellcome 5,1 736 Berlin, Germany 084192MA Wellcome Trust Wellcome open access |
