Learn more at the TOME website, available at openmonographs.org. How do victims and perpetrators generate conflicting knowledge about genocide? Using a sociology of knowledge approach, Savelsberg answers this question for the Armenian genocide committed in the context of the First World War. Focusing on Armenians and Turks, he examines strategies of silencing, denial, and acknowledgment in everyday interaction, public rituals, law, and politics. Drawing on interviews, ethnographic accounts, documents, and eyewitness testimony, Savelsberg illuminates the social processes that drive dueling versions of history. He reveals counterproductive consequences of denial in an age of human rights hegemony, with implications for populist disinformation campaigns against overwhelming evidence. 2021-02-10T04:30:46Z 2021-02-10T04:30:46Z 2021 book 9780520380196 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/46607 eng application/epub+zip application/pdf Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International 9780520380196_EPUB.epub 9780520380196_WEB_Savelsberg.pdf University of California Press University of California Press https://doi.org/10.1525/luminos.99 https://doi.org/10.1525/luminos.99 72f3a53e-04bb-4d73-b921-22a29d903b3b b818ba9d-2dd9-4fd7-a364-7f305aef7ee9 9780520380196 Knowledge Unlatched (KU) Toward an Open Monograph Ecosystem (TOME) University of California Press Knowledge Unlatched open access
