In order to disprove their views, in his writings not only did he employ theological arguments, he also referred to events which occurred at the time of the origins of the schism. Augustine`s aim was to use historical documents to prove that the Donatists had no right to claim that they represented the pure Church, free of "traditores". The Donatists reacted to this challenge by developing their own version of the history of the schism. This study draws on Augustine`s anti-Donatist writings to analyse and assess the historical arguments and views of both groups. 2021-12-07T16:15:58Z 2021-12-07T16:15:58Z 2009 book ONIX_20211207_9783110216615_65 1862-1139 9783110216615 9783110203639 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/51710 ger Millennium-Studien / Millennium Studies application/pdf Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International 9783110216615.pdf https://www.degruyter.com/document/doi/10.1515/9783110216615/html De Gruyter 10.1515/9783110216615 The struggle with the Donatists in North Africa dominated Augustine`s term of office as bishop.
