In this book, the author traces normative and organisational efforts of the authorities of the Kingdom of Poland, which sought to maintain control over prostitution and the health of women who offered paid sexual services. The author uses data collected by the police and medical authorities supervising legal and illegal prostitution to provide a demographic and sociological picture of the big-city and small-town market of sexual commerce. It was only in the early twentieth century when prostitution became an important subject of the Polish public debate, a process which is described in the book against the backdrop of the major issues and fears of the epoch. 2021-12-13T15:17:33Z 2021-12-13T15:17:33Z 2020 book ONIX_20211213_9783631822388_9 9783631822388 9783631822395 9783631822401 9783631815847 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/51908 eng Polish Studies - Transdisciplinary Perspectives application/pdf n/a 9783631822388.pdf https://www.peterlang.com/downloadpdf/title/65709 Peter Lang International Academic Publishers 10.3726/b16983 10.3726/b16983 e927e604-2954-4bf6-826b-d5ecb47c6555 9783631822388 9783631822395 9783631822401 9783631815847 30 356 Bern open access
