With for the first time in history there being more people in the world aged 60 years and over than there are children below the age of 5, the book describes this demographic trends as well as the large global challenges and important societal implications this will have such as a worldwide increase in the number of persons affected with dementia, and in the ratio of retired persons to those still in the labor market. Through contributions from many different research areas, it discussed how capability depends on interactions between the individual (e.g. health, genetics, personality, intellectual capacity), environment (e.g. family, friends, home, work place), and society (e.g. political decisions, ageism, historical period). The final chapter summarizes the differences and similarities in these contributions. As such this book provides an interesting read for students, teachers and researchers at different levels and from different fields interested in capability and multidisciplinary research. 2022-01-14T13:40:57Z 2022-01-14T13:40:57Z 2022 book ONIX_20220114_9783030780630_6 9783030780630 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/52400 eng International Perspectives on Aging application/pdf n/a 978-3-030-78063-0.pdf https://link.springer.com/978-3-030-78063-0 Springer Nature Springer International Publishing 10.1007/978-3-030-78063-0 10.1007/978-3-030-78063-0 6c6992af-b843-4f46-859c-f6e9998e40d5 f4a7293f-8631-4181-ae61-47e52fef3edc 9783030780630 Springer International Publishing 31 252 [grantnumber unknown] open access
