Education on and for peace in countries wrestling with, or emerging from, protracted violent conflict is up against major challenges, and both conventional and critical approaches to peace education are limited to address these. Incorporating a focus on historical memory, without losing sight of its own pitfalls, into peace education can support learners and teachers to come to grips with achieving positive, peace-sustaining change at both the micro (individual) and macro (social and institutional) levels, and to develop concepts and practices of effective and legitimate alternatives to violence and war. Conceived in these terms, historical memory-oriented peace education also stands to enhance the work-in-progress that is the UN-led sustaining peace agenda, including its Sustainable Development Goals. 2022-03-15T07:53:39Z 2022-03-15T07:53:39Z 2022 book ONIX_20220314_9783030936549_58 9783030936549 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/53356 eng Memory Politics and Transitional Justice application/pdf n/a 978-3-030-93654-9.pdf https://link.springer.com/978-3-030-93654-9 Springer Nature Palgrave Macmillan 10.1007/978-3-030-93654-9 10.1007/978-3-030-93654-9 6c6992af-b843-4f46-859c-f6e9998e40d5 4cafffa2-56da-425d-8df1-26ef063a1cbf 9783030936549 Palgrave Macmillan 119 Cham [grantnumber unknown] open access
