This is shown in twelve case studies that focus on decisive moments in European and US history from 1800 until today. Each case study clarifies how emotions were central to people’s political engagement and its effects. The sources range from parliamentary buildings and social movements, to images and speeches of presidents, from fascist cemeteries to the International Criminal Court. Both the timeframe and the geographical focus have been chosen to highlight the increasingly participatory character of nineteenth- and twentieth-century politics, which is inconceivable without the work of emotions. 2022-04-13T15:08:43Z 2022-04-13T15:08:43Z 2022 book ONIX_20220413_9783030898588_9 9783030898588 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/54014 eng Palgrave Studies in the History of Emotions application/pdf n/a 978-3-030-89858-8.pdf https://link.springer.com/978-3-030-89858-8 Springer Nature Palgrave Macmillan 10.1007/978-3-030-89858-8 10.1007/978-3-030-89858-8 6c6992af-b843-4f46-859c-f6e9998e40d5 9783030898588 Palgrave Macmillan 390 Cham open access
