Thus, the actors open windows across time to present a profound overview of diverse descriptions and constructions of Asia. It is demonstrated that international and transnational history contributes to and benefits from analyses of national and local contexts that in turn enrich our understanding of transcultural encounters and experiences across time. The book proposes an actor-centred contextual approach to travel writing to recount meaningful constructions of Asia’s physical, political and spiritual landscapes. It offers comparative reflections on the patterns of encounter across Eurasia, where from the late medieval period an idea of civilisation was transculturally shared yet also constantly questioned and reframed. Tailored for academic and public discussions alike, this volume will be invaluable for both scholars of Global History and interested audiences to stimulate further discussions on the nature of global encounters in Asia. 2022-06-20T19:31:19Z 2022-06-20T19:31:19Z 2022 book ONIX_20220620_9789811901249_23 9789811901249 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/57002 eng Palgrave Series in Asia and Pacific Studies application/pdf n/a 978-981-19-0124-9.pdf https://link.springer.com/978-981-19-0124-9 Springer Nature Palgrave Macmillan 10.1007/978-981-19-0124-9 10.1007/978-981-19-0124-9 6c6992af-b843-4f46-859c-f6e9998e40d5 4d1b61ba-0e8c-43c4-9949-2b785d6a8fa7 9789811901249 Palgrave Macmillan 310 Singapore [...] open access
