Ferrara synthesizes “power-based” or “power-distributional” explanations and “ideas-based” “legitimation explanations.” He specifies the psychological “microfoundations” of processes of institutional development, drawing heavily from the findings of experimental psychology to ensure that the explanation is grounded in clear and realistic assumptions regarding human motivation, cognition, and behavior. Aside from being of interest to scholars and graduate students in political science and other social-scientific disciplines whose research concentrates on the genesis of political institutions, their evolution over time, and their impact on the stability of political order and the quality of governance, the book will be required reading in graduate courses and seminars in comparative politics where the study of institutions and their development ranks among the subfield’s most important subjects. 2022-07-18T08:10:01Z 2022-07-18T08:10:01Z 2022 book 9780472132836 9780472038985 9780472129652 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/57419 eng Weiser Center for Emerging Democracies application/pdf application/epub+zip Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International 9780472902781.pdf 9780472902781.epub https://www.bibliovault.org/thumbs/978-0-472-03898-5-highres.jpg; https://www.bibliovault.org/thumbs/978-0-472-03898-5-frontcover.jpg; https://www.bibliovault.org/thumbs/978-0-472-03898-5-thumb.jpg University of Michigan Press 10.3998/mpub.12013333 10.3998/mpub.12013333 e07ce9b5-7a46-4096-8f0c-bc1920e3d889 b818ba9d-2dd9-4fd7-a364-7f305aef7ee9 9780472132836 9780472038985 9780472129652 Knowledge Unlatched (KU) 216 Knowledge Unlatched open access
