Placing special emphasis on women’s rituals, she looks at the relationship between the framework and organization of indigenous genres and the reception of folklore performance. The regional repertoire under examination presents a strikingly female-centered world. Female performers and characters are active, articulate, and frequently challenge or defy expectations of gender. Men also confound traditional gender roles. Flueckiger includes the translations of two full performance texts of narratives sung by female and male storytellers respectively. 2023-03-29T15:50:30Z 2023-03-29T15:50:30Z 1996 book ONIX_20230329_9781501722868_88 9781501722868 9781501727832 9781501722875 9780801432064 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/62102 eng Myth and Poetics application/pdf application/epub+zip Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International 9781501722868.pdf 9781501722875.epub http://www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/book/9780801432064/gender-and-genre-in-the-folklore-of-middle-india Cornell University Press Cornell University Press 10.7298/51nk-sd92 10.7298/51nk-sd92 06a447d4-1d09-460f-8b1d-3b4b09d64407 0314e571-4102-4526-b014-3ed8f2d6750a 9781501722868 9781501727832 9781501722875 9780801432064 Cornell University Press 424 Ithaca [...] Open Book Program National Endowment for the Humanities NEH open access
