"Doing" nature-study means observing, wondering, and solving problems. It could include collecting, building, measuring, painting, planning, writing, touching, experimenting or any of a wide range of other activities. Most importantly, it allows children to be "original investigators." This book is intended as a resource for teachers and students engaged in nature study at summer camps and in schools. William Gould Vinal believed that the teacher of nature study should be "in sympathy with the simple life and the country way," that the nature study should emphasize observation of the interactions of plants and animals in their environment, and not be reduced to matters of taxonomy and anatomy. In Nature Guiding, he offers advice to camp counselors and school teachers on incorporating nature study into everyday activities, as well as suggestions for parents and others about using visits to state and national parks to teach nature lore. 2023-03-29T15:51:45Z 2023-03-29T15:51:45Z 2019 book ONIX_20230329_9781501740862_153 9781501740862 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/62170 eng application/pdf application/epub+zip Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International 9781501740862.pdf 9781501740879.epub Cornell University Press Comstock Publishing Associates 10.7298/ngng-pf07 10.7298/ngng-pf07 06a447d4-1d09-460f-8b1d-3b4b09d64407 0314e571-4102-4526-b014-3ed8f2d6750a 9781501740862 Comstock Publishing Associates 570 Ithaca [...] Open Book Program National Endowment for the Humanities NEH open access
