Critical mapping begins with identification and operationalization of the wicked problem leading to an integrative literature review of multidisciplinary scholarly sources to identify peer-reviewed DOs that contribute to addressing the wicked problem sustainably. Next, it progresses to charting the sustainable DOs affinitively with four quadrants—top-down and local, top-down and memetic (i.e., widespread), bottom-up and memetic, bottom-up, and local. The resulting visualization, introduced as a wicked solution, facilitates analysis to identify places to intervene in the system, where one can synthesize the impact of existing sustainable DOs to understand where gaps exist for future design innovation or appropriation that has the potential to cumulatively solve the wicked problem over time. 2023-04-24T09:54:10Z 2023-04-24T09:54:10Z 2023 chapter 9781032118895 9781032118888 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/62530 eng application/pdf Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International 9781003222026_10.4324_9781003222026-2.pdf Taylor & Francis Critical Mapping for Sustainable Food Design Routledge 10.4324/9781003222026-2 10.4324/9781003222026-2 7b3c7b10-5b1e-40b3-860e-c6dd5197f0bb da5d771b-a79e-4c2b-917e-24269a487bfc 9949e817-5fb3-445a-bbe8-be1ed954285c 9781032118895 9781032118888 Routledge 44 University of Michigan U-M open access
