Most of the studies which research the way the EU is being legitimised focus on the European Parliament elections. In this book we argue that to understand how EU accountability works, it is necessary to focus instead on national elections and the national political environment. Through a detailed, multimethod analysis this book establishes rigorously the paths of European accountability at the national level, its propitious contexts in the media and parliamentary debates, and whether the paths are similar from Greece to Germany. The findings have implications for both national and European Union democracy, underlining the importance that national institutions have in enabling citizens to hold the EU accountable. 2023-05-16T15:06:50Z 2023-05-16T15:06:50Z 2023 book ONIX_20230516_9783031291876_34 9783031291876 9783031291869 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/63007 eng Palgrave Studies in European Union Politics application/pdf n/a 978-3-031-29187-6.pdf https://link.springer.com/978-3-031-29187-6 Springer Nature Palgrave Macmillan 10.1007/978-3-031-29187-6 10.1007/978-3-031-29187-6 6c6992af-b843-4f46-859c-f6e9998e40d5 c4b387ad-7180-445a-acf0-79d86cffd8e6 9783031291876 9783031291869 Palgrave Macmillan 337 Cham [...] open access
