Starting with a brief reprise of basic concepts in relativity, quantum mechanics of fields and particle physics, this book discusses: the dynamics of the massless relativistic string; confinement; causality and relativistic covariance; Lund fragmentation processes; QED and QCD Bremsstrahlung; multiplicities and particle-parton distributions. Throughout the book, theory is confronted with current experimental data, and implications for future experiments are also considered. The book also explores the relationships between the Lund model and other models based on field theory (the Schwinger model, S-matrix models, light-cone algebra physics and variations of the parton model), and models based on statistical mechanics (the Feynman-Wilson gas, scaling, iterative cascade models). 2023-07-19T14:16:52Z 2023-07-19T14:16:52Z 1998 book ONIX_20230719_9781009401296_2 9781009401296 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/64003 eng application/pdf Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International 9781009401296.pdf Cambridge University Press 10.1017/9781009401296 10.1017/9781009401296 7607a2d0-47af-490f-9d2a-8c9340266f8a c2fbf30c-ef0f-473b-8ee4-03e135ae04d0 9781009401296 SCOAP3 for Books [...] SCOAP3 open access
