In addition, this research project explores the effect of family background and gender on this contact. The analysis shows frequent contact with English-language media content by young learners in Germany and Switzerland. More frequent contact was associated with higher language competences. Differences could be found in the preferences of media content and type of media channels due to socio-economic family background and gender. 2023-09-13T19:47:28Z 2023-09-13T19:47:28Z 2023 book ONIX_20230913_9783658424084_28 9783658424084 9783658424077 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/76257 eng application/pdf n/a 978-3-658-42408-4.pdf https://link.springer.com/978-3-658-42408-4 Springer Nature Springer VS 10.1007/978-3-658-42408-4 10.1007/978-3-658-42408-4 6c6992af-b843-4f46-859c-f6e9998e40d5 9783658424084 9783658424077 Springer VS 214 Wiesbaden open access
