Die albertinischen Fürstenschulen Pforta (bei Naumburg), St. Afra (Meißen) und St. Augustin (Grimma) waren von großer Bedeutung für die Konsolidierung der lutherischen Kirchenmusik. Die Schulen, ihre Lehrer und Absolventen trieben die Transformation Mitteldeutschlands in eine blühende Musiklandschaft voran. Diesen Prozess zeichnet das Buch detailliert nach und entwirft dabei ein musikhistorisches Panorama der Reformation, das vom 13. Jahrhundert bis zum Beginn des Dreißigjährigen Krieges reicht.
