Recently, various initiatives have been undertaken to investigate malpractices in transnational adoption in countries such as the Netherlands (COIA, 2021) and Switzerland (Conseil fédéral, 2020). Following reports of malpractices in adoptions from countries including Ethiopia in 2019, a study was also commissioned by the Flemish government (Belgium) that same year to investigate malpractices in transnational adoption. This research was conducted by several Flemish universities (VUB, UGent, and UA) from ethical, historical-social, legal, and psychosocial perspectives. The authors of this chapter contributed to the psychosocial research from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. This chapter focuses on the aforementioned psychosocial consequences from the perspective of adoptees and is based on earlier work by Villanueva O’Driscoll et al. (2022). We delve further into the following questions: What malpractices did adoptees experience? What are the psychosocial consequences of the experienced malpractices? What needs do these adoptees have? 2024-05-27T11:52:59Z 2024-05-27T11:52:59Z 2023 chapter ONIX_20240527_9789461175311_5 9789461175311 9789461175618 9789461175601 https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/90563 dut application/pdf Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International H7.pdf https://www.borgerhoff-lamberigts.be/owl-press/shop/boeken/voorbij-transnationale-adoptie?variant=144703 ASP editions - Academic and Scientific Publishers Voorbij transnationale adoptie ASP Editions 10.46944/9789461175618.3 This chapter examines the psychosocial impact of malpractices in transnational adoption.
