Description
Summary:During a seven months period of time (March to September 2015) samples were taken from rainbow trout farms located in two prefectures of Epirus area. The microorganism Lactococcus garvieae was isolated which is the causative agent of Lactococcosis disease. The disease is mainly characterized by protruded eyes, pale liver and spleen enlargement; it is present in our country from more than ten years ago and created serious problems during the first years of its appearance. Successive facing of the disease was achieved by using vaccines and avoiding antibiotics, a solution which protects both the water environment and the public health.
